One of the big hopes of nano is its impact on the production and storage of energy.
Getting energetic
When people of think of "energy" or "alternative energy", they typically only think of oil or methods of replacing oil's use. But the field of energy, and nanotechnologies' role in it, involves producing, saving and storing energy.
By saving energy we mean, for example, improving the insulation of buildings so less energy is used to heat and cool them. For storing energy, we mean making improvements to batteries. And finally, when we discuss energy production in relation to nanotechnology we are talking about improving solar cells and making hydrogen fuel cells more usable.
